The Salone di Rappresentanza of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region in Piazza dell’Unita’ d’Italia in Trieste hosted the press conference for the presentation of the 16th winter edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival, which will be held in the region from 21 to 28 January.
The President of the EOC (European Olympic Committees), Spyros Capralos, thanked the FVG region, which has already organised a great summer edition in Lignano Sabbiadoro in 2005. We are ready for the record-breaking European Youth Snow and Ice Games. A travelling and cross-border format, a springboard for many athletes. An event that will be streamed live and will be a decisive moment of socialisation and growth for the young participants, including the outstanding Azzurri team. In FVG there will be 30 ambassadors who will disseminate Olympic values through a series of initiatives throughout the week.
EYOF2023 OC President Maurizio Dunnhofer thanked all those who made this dream come true. From the EOC, to the CONI, to President Fedriga, to the sports and ski clubs, not forgetting the 1,200 volunteers.
Borut Kolaric, head of the EOC Inspection Commission for the EYOF2023, recalled the various inspections and visits carried out in the region since 2020. This is a very demanding event involving thousands of people and an entire region with no less than 11 competition venues. An experience that all participants will remember and tell their friends about, and that will enrich them as athletes and as individuals.
FVG President Massimiliano Fedriga said he was proud to have brought this great sporting event dedicated to young people to FVG. The EYOF2023 has enabled us to modernise existing facilities and equipment with sustainability-conscious measures and future-oriented investments. Fedriga, addressing Capralos, recalled the uniqueness of the event with the opening ceremony just a few metres from the sea and the competitions that will start tomorrow, Sunday 22 January, in the various mountain resorts of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The EYOF2023 will be a perfect start for the Winter Olympic Games in Milan Cortina2026.
